A nursing home patient has died after suffering from a pressure ulcer without proper care from nursing home staff. The patient had pressure wounds upon entering the nursing home. However, rather than provide adequate turning and repositioning care, the patient was left to sit for hours without interruption. The patient's pressure wound on his buttocks measured 15 cm. His heel turned gangrene after deteriorating significantly. Unfortunately, the deterioration and infection led to his death.
“Not only should the registered nurses have paid a bit more attention to the dressing and so forth of the wound, I think, really, it should have been escalated in a more effective way,” said the director, new to the nursing home after the incident. For more, read the story.
