Nursing home patients under one company’s for-profit umbrella will no longer receive bed checks at night. The company’s dementia unit strategist added to the policy to remove the routine checks stating, “The routine of ‘doing rounds ruing the night shift is based upon a hospital culture, not a home environment – routine checks for safety and breathing are not necessary.” The policy is part of a “no wake” policy to avoid disturbing the sleep of patients in the facilities.
Loved ones are concerned for patients in the nursing homes under the chain not receiving the routine checks. As a result of the new policy, one patient fell and suffered serious injuries. The patient was left in the floor of the room without being found for some time. For more, read the story.
