Nursing Home Patients Suffer Heat To Maintain Residency

A nursing home owner is withholding air conditioning from patients saying it is not required to offer rooms at a certain temperature. The nursing home owner’s attorney states that the law requires a comfortable climate and residents can seek temporary housing elsewhere if uncomfortable. The same circumstance occurred last year, however, the owner only turned on air conditioning in the hallways at that time.

Patients’ families say it is a ploy to out their loved ones and close the facility. The value is noted at $76.5 million. The owner would like for the residents to relocate, however, the patients remaining, using seven out of 130 beds, do not want to leave and have been fighting a battle at the Supreme Court level to stay for more than a year.
