Families are questioning facilities that remain open after incidents occurred resulting in injury or deterioration in health of loved ones. These facilities are among six in the same county ranked in the “much below average” level of nursing home care in the state. Nine out of twenty facilities ranked below average. On a larger scale almost half of the facilities in the whole state are ranked below average as well.
Incidents like the one involving a lawsuit provide explanation as to the low rankings. One patient developed severe bed sores after residing in a facility noted to have dirty rooms, rodent droppings, failure by staff to wash hands, and lack of care plan follow through. The man was eventually removed from the facility and taken home to be cared for by hospice due to his poor quality of care at the nursing home. For more, read the story.
