Nursing Home Self-Reports Resident Abuse By Nurse's Aide

A nursing home has filed a report with the Department of Health regarding elder abuse at the facility. The facility is mandated by the state to report the incident to the Department of Health, who in turn is required to report the incident to police.

According to the report, on the afternoon of March 15, staff witnessed a nurse’s aide push a male resident several times on the head. The incident occurred when two aides were assisting the resident from his chair into a shower chair. During the transfer, the resident scratched one of the aides in the chest. The other aide responded by pushing the man and saying, “Stop doing that, you crazy old man.” The aide who witnessed the abuse, reported it to the nursing supervisor, who then reported the incident to the Department of Health.
