Nursing Home Settles Wrongful Death Claim

A nursing home chain has settled a wrongful death lawsuit against it and regarding an 85-year old resident that had been housed there four years. The complaint alleges that nursing care staff failed to prevent bed sores and infections and properly assess mental and physical changes.

The jury found that the resident died of complications related to dehydration because staff at the nursing home did not feed and care for her, although dementia was listed as her cause of death on her death certificate.

The jury also found that that it was a combination of ordinary and medical negligence that resulted in the resident’s death. The defendant’s filed a motion to dismiss all charges but a settlement was made instead. Terms of the settlement were confidential. For more, read the story.
