Nursing Home Standards Lowered In One State, Causing Concern

Recently one state has decided to lower the standard of care for nursing home facilities. This state has also sent letters to all the nursing homes saying that there were no reports needed if residents fell or had been harmed from medical errors. Statistics show the difference. In previous years there were about thirty cases per year where nursing homes were fined, but this year there were zero cases.

These statistics worry loved ones because they now have to live with greater concern about the care of their loved ones staying in nursing homes. If the nursing homes do not have to report the harms being done to the elderly then there is no way to ensure safety. People are worried that they can no longer trust the rating system for the nursing homes because the rating system no longer takes every care concern into account. Advocates of quality nursing home care are working to fix this problem currently. For more, read the story.
