Nursing Home Study Reveals Minorities Tend To Receive Less Quality Care

Based on a recent study in one state, residents in a minority race are experiencing a lower quality of life in nursing homes compared Caucasian residents of the same facilities. The minority group residents claim they would put themselves in the category of receiving a lower quality of life in almost every aspect except for the room size/environment, which is the one thing all residents are required to have in common.

Nursing homes are found to have better or worse quality of life expectations due to the amount of resources they have such as employees and money. Minorities tend to be in more low income neighborhoods causing them to reside in nursing home facilities that usually have less resources than necessary. The issue is under construction for improvement by grants and programs that help nursing homes improve the amount of resources they have and increase the quality of life for their elderly residents.
