Nursing Home Sued Over Patient Death

A nursing home has been sued where a patient was found dead after being left outside in 87 degree temperatures. The patient suffered from dementia and was allowed to wander outside the home. The patient went missing for 3 hours and was found outside the home lying in direct sunlight with vomit on the sides of her mouth.

Video surveillance showed the patient entering the courtyard at 1:47pm, but staff only started looking for her at 5:15pm. Staffing did have an account of her whereabouts in between those time periods. One nurse testified that she saw the patient in the facility around 3pm, but she was later fired.
