State public health officials are investigating various incidents that led to the death of four patients at one nursing home. The incidents have brought questions as to whether or not the deaths could have been prevented. The reasons the patients died included falls, suicide, and being found unattended outdoors.
Asked if it was unusual to have four deaths at one facility under investigation at the same time, he said, “Not necessarily. They're not all falls, either. One of these cases is a suicide. That's more rare. They do happen, but we don't have a lot of suicides in nursing homes. Most of them are falls.”
The facility is warranting attention due to other issues such as financial issues, staffing, food service and plunging census. For more, read the story.
