A nursing home may be fined more than $27,000 for the death of a patient. The patient was taken to the hospital in comatose form and diagnosed with severe dehydration. The attending physician said there was no way the patient could have had water for the past 5 days and probably had very little fluids for the weeks prior. The state began an investigation, but has since turned the case over to a national authority.
“They didn’t do much explaining at all,” said a family member speaking of the patient's death. “They just said, ‘It happened and that’s the way it is.’ It’s really quite upsetting to think of how all of this happened.” For more, read the story.
