Nursing Home Wrongful Death Lawsuit Brings $18 Million Award

The outcome of a lawsuit filed for wrongful death and neglect has ended with an award of $18 million to the family of a woman who died suffering abuse from a nursing home. The woman was 94 at the time that she died and was left in a state of extreme neglect. The patient developed pressure ulcers that exposed nerve endings and allowed for infections like E. Coli. She was unable to move her arms and legs due to inactivity as well.

The patient also spent long periods of time in feces and urine due to a policy that was in place at the nursing home facility. “There was evidence presented in the case that the facility had a policy to leave the residents in their adultbriefs for extended periods of time before they changed them,in order to save cost on those briefs,” said the family’s attorney.
