A nursing home patient died as a result of neglect of a pressure ulcer that did not receive proper medical attention. The nursing home settled a wrongful death suit filed by the family after allegations arose of improper care. The family believes the settlement admits wrongdoing. However, the facility maintains that it is only settling for the purpose of moving forward to concentrate on care of its patients.
The deceased patient suffered a bed sore that was allowed to double in size, receiving treatment until Medicare funding ran out. After that point, the patient was reduced to the level of assisted living care. The suit settled for $1 million. For more, read the story.
