Nursing Home's Abrupt Closure Sent Elderly Resident to Sleep in a Local Hospital's Hallway

One nursing home facility’s abrupt closure left one of its elderly residents sleeping in a local hospital hallway. According to a report, the facility’s unexpected closure was imminent from inadequate staffing. A 91-year-old demented resident from the facility was forced to sleep in a stretcher after being transported to the hospital via ambulance. She slept in the hallway because the hospital’s emergency room was at full capacity for several hours.

The resident’s family is upset they did not receive advanced warning of the closure. “To me, this is nothing short of bureaucratic incompetence. There’s no common sense; there’s no compassion,” the resident’s son stated in an interview. For more, read the story.
