Nursing Homes Fined For Incidents Involving Lapses In Care, Death Of Patients

Five nursing home have been fined more than $1,000 each for incidents involving lapses in patient care and even two deaths. One patient was allowed to fall when repositioned by only one nurse instead of two, suffering broken bones and ultimately death. Another patient was allowed to sustain 6 days without having a bowel movement, requiring hospitalization.

Yet another patient was allowed to suffer 3 hours past the time pain education should have been administered. In another incident a patient was allowed to be resuscitated and then died after being revived, although the patient was a DNR. The file was not documented with the correct information. Some of the facilities fired the nurses involved in these incidents. Each nursing home had to pay a fine. For more, read the story.
