Nursing Homes Receive New Rules From State Governor

A state governor has added new rules for nursing homes to follow based on the incidents leading to eight patient deaths. The patients died after air conditioning stopped working following a hurricane. One of the new rules requires nursing home and assisted living facilities to acquire generators.

The generators must be capable of 96 hours of electricity that can maintain comfortable temperatures. The state fire marshall is required to inspect the generators within 15 days of installation. The facilities must also keep fuel on hand to run the generators in the event they are needed. For more, read the story
