One state has the highest number of nursing home abuse incidents among 33 other states' emergency room records analyzed 2015-2016. In 40% of the cases involving incidents with abuse, the incidents were not reported to local authorities. This has brought concern to the inspector general.
The inspector general spoke against the authorities and their failure to report the cases, the CMS “has inadequate procedures to ensure that incidents of potential abuse or neglect of Medicare beneficiaries residing in (nursing homes) are identified and reported.” For more, read the story.
