One state has seen an increase in the reporting of elder abuse after an effort to train law enforcement on what constitutes abuse. The state is attributing the new education endeavor for the increase in cases opened citing elder abuse. The state also hired a new prosecutor to focus on caring for the cases involved.
“I think it’s really been a combination of more, better reporting and more follow-up with law enforcement,” said the executive director of the agency on aging. “And also because of the increase of the population, you are going to have instances because we have a growing older population.” For more, read the story.
