One State’s Attorney General Initiates a State-wide Investigation of Nursing Homes

One patient’s tragic story at a nursing center initiated an investigation of nursing homes in one state. The incident began when a caretaker of a skilled nursing facility neglected to turn on a patient’s bed alarm, permitting the patient to get up and walk unsupervised. A week later after sustaining injuries, the patient died.

The investigation lasted more than a year and reached seven settlements for injuries and wrongful deaths. “We turn over our loved ones to skilled nursing centers, because we do not have the training or the skill sets to care for them at home. We expect them to be safe,” said the daughter of that patient that initiated the investigation. For more, read the story.
