Patient Suffers Subdural Hematoma Due To Blood Thinner
A 92-year-old patient was discharged from the hospital after a left hip fracture surgery on June 8, 2013 and admitted to the nursing home for therapy. The patient was receiving Lovenox and Coumadin daily, with Admission Orders to the nursing home to maintain INR in the 2-3 range and to check her PT/INR daily until discontinued. The patient was identified as being “at risk for bleeding/bruising/abnormal labs” related to the Coumadin and Lovenox.

Over the next two months, the patient continued to suffer from C.diff diarrhea, which the nursing home failed timely to diagnose. On admission, he was known by the defendants to be a high fall risk due to an unsteady gait and weakness and poor safety while ambulating, among other medical conditions and limitations.On March 21, 2009, the patient was permitted by the nursing home to fall in his bathroom. The patient was found in the bathroom floor.

A 91-year-old female patient sustained a fall at home on July 3, 2013. As a result of the fall, she was hospitalized at the hospital with left hip and left wrist fractures. She received surgery at the hospital to repair the fractures.
