Pittsburgh Nursing Home Set to Close

Charles Morris Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, A Pittsburgh nursing home, is set to close in January 2021. 50 residents and 104 employees will be displaced, looking for new homes and places of work. Residents and their families struggle with this news, as they wonder if they will find the same level of care received at Charles Morris.

The closing of this home reflects a larger ongoing crisis occurring with nursing homes set to close as a result of COVID-19. A recent study reported that “40 percent [of surveyed nursing homes] said they’re at risk of closing within six months.” Many argue that the “government must step in to avoid cascading closures” following the COVID-19 pandemic and shut downs.
