Between 2015 and 2018, a study showed that one state had 247 incidents involving elderly patients in nursing homes. The incidents included injuries from falls, medication errors and pressure ulcers. These are highly preventable and associated with lack of care provided because of insufficient staffing.
From this, the Department of Public Health and the Advanced Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, filed a consent order and mandated nursing homes in the area hire nursing consultants.
