Scabies Outbreak Earns Nursing Home Largest Fine In The Country

One nursing home now has the record for receiving the largest nursing home fine in the United States. About one-third of the patients in this facility were found to be infested with scabies. For awhile there were reports of rashes among the residents, but the nursing home operators failed to act on these claims. The scabies outbreak in this facility lasted for months and was spread throughout the home as they failed to disinfect sheets and rooms.

One of the residents was infected by the scabies bad enough that they had to get treatment from the hospital and the rest were soon treated. Many people are concerned for this nursing home because the outbreak lasted far too long and seemed to even be ignored by administrators. For this scabies incident the nursing home will pay a fine of $891,350, the largest fine in the country. This could also hurt the 11 other nursing homes they own in the state.
