Senators Acknowledge Nursing Home Abuse, Discuss Plans to Eliminate Neglect

The discussions regarding nursing homes were largely related to the need for stricter regulations, tougher screening of potential employees, and the elimination of preventable errors.

The hearing was sparked by several recent national reports of alleged nursing home abuse, which one committee chairman is stressing are not isolated incidents. “Hardly a week goes by without seeing something about nursing home abuse or neglect in the national news,” the chairman stated. During the hearing, legislators from all political backgrounds conveyed mutual outrage over the mistreatment of elders in nursing home facilities. For more, read the story.
