Severe Weather Forces Two Dozen Nursing Home Residents to Relocate

Heavy snow and freezing rain that struck nearly the entire country last week downed tree
limbs and power lines, and caused driving conditions to become treacherous. But it was a heavy rain and wind storm that forced two dozen residents  to evacuate a nursing home after winds tore off a section of  the facility’s roof,
authorities said.

No one at the nursing home was
injured, and the 24 residents were taken to a near by nursing home with extra room for the additional patients, authorities said. “Straight-line
winds hit from the west and flipped over about a 50-foot section of tin
over to the east side of the road,” said the nursing home administrator. “We lost some tin and
some decking, but that was it.”

The
storm was part of a line of storms that prompted the National Weather Service to
issue severe thunderstorm and flash flood watches for the region. The national weather service estimated that winds reached up to 70 miles per hour in the area of the nursing home. For more, read the story.
