Some Nursing Home Advocates Debate A Required Consent Form For Antipsychotic Drugs

Nursing home policies are in question when it comes to antipsychotic drugs.Nursing home care advocates are in favor of patients signing forms to require consent for patients to take the drugs. There has been an increase in patients receiving the drugs unnecessarily.

However, there is a need to consider the patient as some may not be able to provide consent but suffer from schizophrenia. The caution is to avoid overmedicating patients with dementia and ensuring those with depression do not receive the drug as it may cause seizures in those who do not need the drugs.
