After nursing home staff members attended a 300-person wedding in Washington state, 7 residents died as a result of Covid-19. Several staff members at three nursing home facilities tested positive after attending the wedding outside of Spokane. This wedding was later linked to 40 cases of Covid-19, with outbreaks at nursing homes and a school.
A few weeks later, four elderly men died at three different nursing homes, with staff who attended the wedding. At the time the nursing home staff attended the wedding, wedding ceremonies were limited to 30 people. The local health department spoke on the heartbreaking deaths, explaining that the elderly and those with chronic conditions “are especially at risk of complications . . . we must continue to take measures to protect them from this disease.”
