State Department Struggles To Maintain Volume Of Complaints

One state health department is experiencing a backlog of complaints about nursing home care. The backlog of complaints is up to 140, although officials say they are keeping up with the most critical complaints. Complaints have risen by 50 percent over the past two years. .

Officials say $1 million has been spent using outside first to investigate claims of abuse and neglect and help respond to the needs of families and patients suffering abuse. According to an official,“while we take comfort in the fact that the majority of complaints against skilled nursing care centers are not substantiated, we will continue to work collaboratively with the department to help solve backlog issues.”  For more, read the story
