State Health Departments Strive To Prevent Patient Eviction

The state health department is attempting to prevent patients from being evicted due to lesser payments for nursing home care. Patients that do not require therapy or other types of skilled care do not pay the nursing home as much to secure a bed. “We're seeing nursing homes that have made a financial decision that they would like a certain type of resident,” said one healthcare advocate for reducing discharges. 

Some patients have been discharged unnecessarily while the nursing home billed Medicare for the discharge. Complaints have been issued calling this Medicare fraud. For more, read the story
