State Uncovers Serious Violations at Nursing Home

Violations that include an extension cord with exposed wires were found and places nursing home residents in jeopardy of risk of electric shock, fire, or death if the problems are not corrected. The Department of Health is requiring the nursing home to hire an outside contractor to evaluate the hazards and implement a plan of correction.

Other issues that were documented included areas housekeeping and maintenance, catheter use, prevention and treatment of pressure sores, and infection control. Some of these issues were repeat problems. The state will also take an in-depth look at management.

In addition, staff training will be required on safety and prevention of future occurrences from happening again. The nursing home is facing the possibility of fines by Centers from Medicare and Medicaid Services. For more, read the story.
