State's Largest Nursing Home Chain Owner Finds Facilities Under Scrutiny

The largest nursing home chain owner in one state has facilities under scrutiny due to poor care concerns for patients at the nursing homes. Three facilities have been closed in recent months, making up half of the six total facilities out of 1,200 that have closed in that timeframe. The owner of the facilities says he is being singled out. However, the incidents that have taken place bring cause for investigation and recourse.

One incident involved a female patient who wandered from the facility, walked to a gas station and bought gasoline in plastic container. She then walked further to another location and stripped down and set herself on fire. She died shortly after from injuries sustained. A local ombudsman spoke out saying she believed the facility staff showed a “flagrant disregard for human life”. For more, read the story.
