Patients at multiple nursing homes were endangered when health workers switched name tags and meddled with medical records shortly before the start of a strike earlier this month, according to complaints filed by the managing company.
According to the complaints, the employees deliberately took actions that would put residents at risk of receiving the wrong or improper dosages of medications. The striking employees claimed that they did no such thing and would not put their resident’s in harms way. According to a police report workers removed patients’ wristbands, and removed IDs on doors and wheelchairs.
Workers are also suspected of breaking and/or hiding equipment before going on strike. The state Department of Public Health is investigating the accusations. In 2001, the an investigation found that strikers at 10 nursing homes had sabotaged operations just before a strike, including removing patient identification and tampering with equipment.
