Study Reveals Nursing Home Patients Have Shorter Life Span In Private Facilities

Research reveals that nursing home patients in for-profit nursing home facilities are more likely to die within 6 months of living at a nursing home. The statistics show that the non-profit homes have patients with longer life spans. Some inquiry has been made as to what may be the foundational cause of the variance of life span between the two types of facilities. 

“A lot of the research finds that for-profit facilities actually hire fewer staff. One can’t help but ask [if that is] because more staff affects the bottom line,” said a family physician and university researcher.
