Study Shows Nursing Home Patients Experience Constipation Without Proper Treatment

A nursing home study in Spain is being validated in nursing home findings in the United States. Nursing home patients that experience constipation are not receiving adequate care to treat the issue. Nursing home patients volunteered to have examinations for the study on chronic constipation.

The results showed that 71% of the participants experienced constipation on a regular basis. Almost have of the patient participants experienced impaction regularly as well. The problem was that the constipation was known, but the treatment was not working. Laxatives are now being questioned as effective for chronic constipation. For more, read the story.
