Police say a 91-year-old man shot and killed his wife at a the assisted living center where they were residents. The man then killed himself, officials say. At
about 10:40 a.m. Thursday, Police officers arrived at the apartment style assisted living facility for a welfare check.
Police say they were checking on the couple in response to a call from a family member saying they had not heard from or
talked to their parents for several days. The facility called the residents family when neither of them showed up to meals on Wednesday or Thurdsday. Staff at the facility also went to the apartment to check on them, but left when no one came to the door.
With no answer at
the residence officers entered the couple’s apartment and discovered a 75-year-old female
and a 91-year-old male deceased in the bedroom. Both suffered from
gunshot wounds and, according to police, all the evidence indicates the male shot the female
with a handgun and then turned the gun on himself.
According to police the apartment showed evidence that there was likely a struggle before the suspected murder-suicide. Officials
are not sure what lead up to the shooting, but did say that the couple had started
showing some signs of erratic behavior inside the community. One
