Virginia Attorney General Takes on Medicaid Fraud and Elder Abuse

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has launched efforts to stop Medicaid fraud in the state of Virginia.  Cuccinelli says the purpose of the crackdown is to prevent crime and give patients confidence in knowing that they are charged appropriately for medical services in the Commonwealth.

In 2010, the office’s Medicaid Fraud Control unit recovered more than $15 million in fraudulent charges. Ads part of the effort, the Medicaid Fraud Control unit’s staff has nearly doubled since 2010. In addition to the efforts to prevent and stop Medicaid fraud, Cuccinelli says that his office is also working to target elder abuse by educating seniors and encouraging reporting of abuse and neglect of the elderly.
