Wheelchair-Bound Diabetic: Assisted Living Center Forced Me Out, Dumped Me At Homeless Shelter

A wheelchair-bound diabetic man claims the assisted living center where he had lived for 1 1/2 years recently kicked him out and dumped him on L.A.’s Skid Row at a homeless shelter.

“It’s sole crushing. What are you gonna do? You can’t get help. You’re in a homeless shelter now and you can’t take care of yourself. It’s just dehumanizing,” said the man, who was dropped off in front of the Union Rescue Mission in downtown Los Angeles with just his wheelchair.

“I told them I can’t survive in a homeless shelter. I can’t take care of myself in a homeless shelter. I’ve been in one before and they didn’t care. They said ‘we can do it. We are sending you,’ ” he said.

Rev. Andy Bales, with the shelter, says he is concerned that the diabetic man was left there without his insulin or test kit. For more, read the story
