Nursing Home Under Investigation For Medicaid Fraud
A nursing home facility whose license has been revoked is now under investigation for Medicaid fraud. The state revoked the license after several deficiencies and violations were identified. Patients were not receiving prescribed medication, lacking food, and failing to receive proper hygiene, which in some cases led to bed sores.
Nursing Home Patient Dies Of Strangulation, Lack Of CPR
A nursing home patient died a tragic death after becoming entangled in his nightgown straps. The straps became wrapped around his bed causing strangulation. The patient's roommate tried to call the nurse when he realized the distress of the patient.
One State Seeing Increase In Elder Abuse Cases Opened
One state has seen an increase in the reporting of elder abuse after an effort to train law enforcement on what constitutes abuse. The state is attributing the new education endeavor for the increase in cases opened citing elder abuse. The state also hired a new prosecutor to focus on caring for the cases involved.“I think it’s really been a combination of more, better reporting and more follow-up with law enforcement,” said the executive director of the agency on aging.
Hearing To Determine Fate Of Nursing Home
A hearing is set to determine the future and fate of a nursing home where 11 of 12 deaths were ruled a homicide. The patients died due to a lack of air temperature regulation after the facility lost power. The patients sent to the hospital were suffering from body temperatures from 107-108 degrees.
Nursing Home Fined $25,000 For Patient Bedsore
Upon finding a bedsore on her mother just 4 weeks after admission, the daughter of a patient alerted the state regarding the sore. The patient was noted to have a 3 to 4 inch pressure sore on her mother and nearly passed out when she saw it. “If she had gotten a little bedsore, I wouldn't have said anything,” said the patient's daughter.
Nursing Homes Feeling Effects Of Lawsuits, State Fines For Deficiencies In Care
A nursing home chain is filing for bankruptcy claiming that numerous lawsuits against its facilities have left it lacking funds to provide adequate healthcare. However, public records show the amount money that went into the properties of the owner of the chain and the many deficiencies cited by the state health department. State surveys many incidents warranting hefty fines. One of the incidents involved a patient known for violence and instability who beat his two roommates to death.
