Nursing Home Taken To Court Over Patient Death

A trial is underway for against a nursing home for enacting a do not resuscitate order signed by the patient. Children of the deceased patient filed the lawsuit claiming the patient was mentally ill and without capacity when she signed the form. The family of the deceased patient is seeking damages of $10 Million in the case.The patient died of pneumonia which the lawsuit alleges came from bedsores.

Nursing Home Chains Experience More Deficiencies When Sold Often

Multiple nursing homes in a nursing home chain surveyed by health inspectors were cited for various health care deficiencies. One facility was not unclean with filth so bad in one patient's room, a surveyor's shoe stuck to the floor and came completely off the surveyor's foot. A patient at another facility died of inflammation from a UTI that was left untreated. The nursing homes are being pushed to grow rapidly and patient care is paying the price.

A couple has been arrested and held in the death of a patient for whom they were providing care. The patient was a 54-year-old male who suffered from bed sores that got infected. A nursing home nurse has been convicted of elder abuse of a patient. The nurse was accused of pinching a patient's ear and making the patient hit herself in the face. The nurse also pushed the patient's head down during the incident. The nurse pleaded guilty to felony cruelty to an elder person and misdemeanor simple battery of an elderly person.
