A makeup artist and photographer is bringing joy to nursing homes by creating “Glammy Pics” for patients in the facilities. The patients are photographed in hats, furs, jewelry, etc. The patients have fun taking the photos and families love having them as keepsakes.

A nursing home aide has resigned after being charged with endangering the life of a disabled person. The aide indecently exposed himself to a disabled stroke patient while working at the nursing home. A criminal complaint was filed for his willful violation of the Public Health Law.

Next in line to heart disease and cancer, medical errors may be the third leading cause of death in America based on a recent study.  Heart disease and cancer account for about 600,000 deaths per year. With medication and surgical errors, the causes leading to death may equate for 250,000 deaths each year.  Most of the American public is, however, unaware of the amount of errors leading to death due to coding from the Center for Disease Control.

A Harvard University-led study has been released with data supporting the idea that nursing homes bought and sold with more frequency are often riddled with the most problems in quality care. The study pointed to the foundation that nursing home chains buy nursing homes with higher profit margins. Often higher profit margins are due to less staffing provided for patient care.

Two nursing home facilities are working to improve the safety of their Alzheimer’s patients. Since they have a wandering rate of 6 in 10, Alzheimer’s patients need special measures taken to ensure their safety is met. Police are investigating the care of a nursing home patient in search of possible abuse. The patient was sent to the hospital and later died. He was left outside for a long period of time, developing second degree burns and suffering dehydration.
