Nursing home employees have been suspended pursuant to a claim made that they were abusing the facility property meant to treat patients with dementia. The patients used dolls as a type of therapy, because they viewed the dolls as real babies. Nursing home employees decided to torture the dolls in order to torture the patients.

A preschool has joined forces with a nursing home to bring children in five times a week for social interaction and exposure to the elderly nursing home patients. The patients experience the opportunity for lower blood pressure, slower mental decline, and a reduced rate of disease and death.  Children in return experience more respect for the elderly, more acceptance with disabilities in other people, regardless of age. The daughter of a nursing home patient was suspicious of abuse when she noticed scratches on her mother’s arms. Upon inquiring about them, she was told they were probably self-inflicted, however, they stopped appearing after she probed. With continuing suspicions, she approached state health officials to investigate.

A former nursing home employee has been sentenced for abusing a patient at the nursing home where she worked. Along with another co-worker, she taunted the 76-year-old patient with Alzheimer’s. The patient was forced to punch himself in the face, while trying to fight off the two nursing assistants.  One convicted nursing assistant will serve 18 months in prison and five years’ probation.

A nurse assistant at a nursing home was fired recently for posting a snapchat video of a patient nearly nude. The patient had dementia and was sitting in bed “in a bra and no underwear and no pants.” The nursing assistant admitted to the video and said the act “was immoral and very terribly wrong.” An investigation took place as soon as officials were alerted about the video. The administration was made aware and the nurse now faces up to 31/2 years in prison.
