One state may enact new laws requiring minimum staffing levels for nursing home facilities. The legislative vote will come after hearing testimony from nurse aides in support of the law. “We have patients who don’t sleep at all,” said one nurse.

A nursing home has two lawsuits pending for the wrongful death of two patients. Both lawsuits were filed within month of each others with similar allegations. The first patient suffered from pressure ulcers, weight loss, malnutrition and dehydration.

A family member has filed a lawsuit after alleging that his relative was neglected at a nursing home facility. The lawsuit claims that the family member did not receive proper care and therefore sustained injuries leading to her death. The lawsuit also states that the family member was not kept safe from harm from other residents during her stay.  The family member is seeking damages for losses suffered and legal fees.

Family members have made claims in a lawsuit that their loved one experienced abuse and neglect where he was supposed to receive special care. The abuse and neglect were documented as falls, choking, physical injuries, mental anguish, and delayed medical treatment. The family states that the nursing home’s lack of care led to negligence, injuries and wrongful death.  The family is seeking damages, attorney fees, court costs, and punitive damages.

A former nursing assistant at a nursing home was formally charged with theft recently for stealing from patients. The theft involved tablets and a golden ring. The nursing assistant sold the patients’ possessions in a pawn shop after stealing them from the facility.

A nursing home employee accused of abusing a patient has waived her right to a preliminary hearing. The nursing home employee was witnessed by a supervisor abusing a patient and subsequently reported. The former caregiver faces felony charges of abuse in the third degree of a vulnerable adult.
