A former nursing home employee has been sentenced a year in jail after being convicted of embezzling from the facility. The 31-year-old administrative assistant admitted to taking over $12,000 from the resident trust fund account, which she was responsible for maintaining. A state audit discovered the irregularities and it was reported to the Attorney General’s Office.

A nursing home employee was fired and charged with five felony counts earlier this year after allegedly removing fentanyl patches from residents for her own use, according to a Department of Health report released last week. The nursing home administrator, said the incidents occurred late last year. According to the report, staff had noted fentanyl narcotic pain patches missing off of residents for several weeks.

According to police, a nurse’s aide has killed an 82-year-old woman living in a an assisted living home a day after the woman accused the aide of forging her checks. Police have confirmed that four of  the elderly women’s checks worth $1,200 were made out to the 30-year-old aide. She was charged last week with forgery and murder.

A nurse at a nursing home is accused of purposely withholding prescribed medications from an 83-year-old resident. Prosecutors have charged the 46-year-old nurse with criminal neglect of an elderly person. A spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office has stated that the nurse was working at the nursing home when she withheld the medications from a patient for 45 days in January and February.

A jury has sided with the family of a deceased nursing home patient after an eight-day trial. The nursing home resident, a wheelchair user, died in 2008 after a hard meatball got stuck in his windpipe at lunch. The man had a swallowing problem and other health issues stemming early stages of dementia and a stroke-like condition.

The former employee of a nursing home who was accused of abusing a patient last year recently pleaded no contest to his charges. According to police, the department received a complaint from a hospital in August of 2010 regarding an elderly male with injuries who claimed to have been assaulted by his nurse while at the nursing home. Police and nursing home officials investigated the incident, and a 45-year-old nurse at the facility was charged with one count of patient on Oct.
