Civil and Criminal Lawsuits Pending Against Care Facility for Elderly
A criminal investigation into an eight-bed residential care facility for the elderly is ongoing after one resident died and two were hospitalized, according to authorities. The owners of the facility had their license to run a care facility revoked Jan. 8, 2010, by the Department of Social Services.
Nursing Home Shut Down Permanently by State Officials
After regulatory battle, one nursing home has been given it’s final order by the state. It has been decided that the home will be closed by state regulators in the next few months. The facility received notice from the State Agency for Health Care Administration that it has 90 days to relocate its residents and shut its doors.

Officials from the State Department of Health have fined a nursing home $18,500 failing to prevent dementia patients from wandering. This comes following an incident when one of the facility’s dementia patient’s allegedly killed another in an altercation. The 78-year-old attacker remains in an undisclosed, secure facility on charges related to the Feb.
Nursing Home Fined $100,00 in Connection With Resident's Alleged Murder
The nursing home where a nursing assistant allegedly smothered an elderly resident to death is facing the most severe fine allowed under state law. Officials from the State Department of Public Health said Monday that the agency had levied the $100,000 penalty against the nursing center for failing to protect the resident. Authorities say a 32-year-old employee of the facility smothered an 87-year-old resident to death with a pillow his first day of work at the facility.
Nursing Home Suit Claims that Family was Not Informed of Loved One's Death For Four Months
Three siblings have filed a lawsuit against one nursing home. The family contends that the facility did not inform them of their mother’s May 2010 death until the woman’s daughter called to wish her mother a happy birthday more than four months later, according to a the complaint. The suit claims that the woman, admitted in 1991, suffered from numerous disabilities and required help with eating, bathing and walking.
Caregiver Pleads Not Guilty in Bed Sore Case
A caregiver accused of not properly caring for a woman with multiple sclerosis who later died has pleaded not guilty to charges of endangering a vulnerable adult. Authorities say that the 51-year-old caregiver failed to get medical attention for a 76-year-old woman in her care who developed bed sores that ultimately became so severe they exposed bone. The woman died last July.
