Nursing home personnel had to think fast and risk their lives to save patients in the midst of fire. The California fires put the lives of many in dangers and took the lives of others. For one nursing home the heroic acts of the nursing home staff saved the patients. Staff evacuated the patients in their own vehicles after the administrator found beds for them at other facilities.

Nursing Home Residents are being adopted for Christmas this year at one nursing home. There is a tree with the residents wish lists available for people in the community to purchase Christmas gifts for them. The facility is highlighting people who have no family to visit or but them Christmas gifts.

Two nursing home lawsuits are in the process of settling.  One lawsuit involves a patient who wandered from the facility.  The patient died and the facility was fined $25,000. The state cited that the facility “failed to ensure the door alarm to the courtyard on the facility's Alzheimer's Unit was engaged and the door not propped open.” The facility plans to settle for $1 million.

A nursing home resident has been arrested for assault and intent to assault another resident and an employee. The resident previously pled guilty to murder and was arrested for domestic abuse.  The resident who was assaulted repeatedly told the other resident to leave her alone. However,  he came to get room and touched her inappropriately and masse advances in several occasions.

A nursing home is being sued for a do not rescucitate order. The husband of a former nursing home patient says the order was forged. He believes she died under the order and should have been rescucitated at the time of her death.She went to the nursing home after her colon cancer progressed.

Nursing home employees are accused of swindling $750,000 from a dementia patient. The employees including a hairstylists received large checks they cashed from her. Other employees also went to the ATM using her account to withdraw funds. A guardian has been put in place to assume responsibility for her finances to protect her from future theft.
