Two nursing home patients and one employee at a nursing home were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at the facility. An investigation revealed the fire was caused by an air conditioning unit. The unit had an issue with wiring. Firefighters were called to put out the fire.

A former nursing home employee has been arrested on multiple counts of abuse following a police investigation. Over the course of a year and a half, her husband contracted scabies 7 times and suffered multiple urinary tract infections.

Nursing home staffing reports required by the CMS are dropping the ratings of some nursing homes. Previously nursing homes had to report staffing for a 2 week period prior to an inspection. This allowed nursing homes to “staff up” for the 2 week period.

One nursing home is experiencing record CNA retention after coordinating a program through a local high school. The program allows students to complete 100 hours of training towards certification and to gain experience with an on the job course. The program also lowers the hiring age for teens from 17 to 18.
