Nursing Home investigation Leaves Loved Ones of Patients Concerned
A nursing home is under investigation after the attorney general launched a statewide investigation of nursing homes owned by the same chain. The nursing home chain has 25 nursing homes involved in a lawsuit alleging nursing home abuse and neglect of patients. A search warrant was issued for a particular nursing home where computers and documents were confiscated by investigators. Family members of patients are concerned as they wonder about the safety of their loved ones.
Nursing Home CEO Home Raided For Items With Search Warrant
The home of a nursing home CEO was recently searched under warrant. Allegations related to the search are currently unknown, however, employees of the FBI, IRS and Office of the Inspector General all participated in the search. The CEO oversees a large nursing home chain of about 100 facilities.
Patients Receive Poor Nursing Home Care Bringing Citations
Three nursing home patients received poor quality care after being transferred from a state mental hospital that closed. Injuries sustained by the patients included severe dehydration, a broken leg, and a collapsed lung. The patients’ families were shocked at the lack of care and extremely disappointed.
Nursing Home Complaints To Ombudsman Extended To Private Care Facilities
Ombudsman will now hear more complaints from nursing home residents and/or their loved ones regarding quality of care, neglect or abuse concerns. Originally, the ombudsman could hear complaints regarding public nursing homes. Nursing Home Lawsuit Cites Two Wrongful Deaths
Two families have lost loved ones at the same nursing home, leading to lawsuits against the facility. Both deaths of patients at the nursing home were allegedly avoidable if they had been handled with proper care. One patient suffered from a fall, that went unreported, was not turned and repositioned as often as necessary, and was overly medicated when combative.
Nursing Home Rating System Receives Yet Another Review
The latest five-star rating system which was recently amended will be reviewed by a government accountability office in order to verify that it is an accurate rating system for quality of care provided in nursing homes. The rating system has been under scrutiny because there are accusations that nursing homes can falsify or inflate staffing information to make it appear at a higher level, ultimately providing a higher rating for the home.
